We4Sea ready for Sea Cargo Charter initiative

DELFT (NL), October 10, 2020 – We4Sea B.V. (We4Sea) has upgraded its performance monitoring solution in response to Sea Cargo Charter initiative. Aim is to assist bulk ship charterers to report emissions in compliance with this guidance. The Sea Cargo Charter initiative announced on October 7, 2020, sets a new benchmark for responsible shipping, transparent climate reporting, and improved decision-making for large industrial corporations in line with United Nations decarbonisation targets.Major industrial corporations in energy, agriculture, mining, and commodity trading sectors use global shipping services, and the shipping of crude oil, coal, iron ore, grain, and other bulk commodities constitute more than 80% of global seaborne trade.The Sea Cargo Charter sets a baseline to assess and reveal whether shipping activities of these companies are aligned with the climate goals.As a result, the Sea Cargo Charter will enable cargo-owners and shipowners to align their chartering activities with responsible environmental behaviour and incentivize international shipping’s decarbonization – to shape a better future for maritime shipping and society.The new initiative is applicable to bulk ship charterers: those with interest in the cargo on board; those who simply charter out the vessels they charter in; as well as the disponent owners and all charterers in the charterparty chain.We4Sea, a maritime data company focussed on increasing the fuel efficiency and lower the emissions of seagoing ships, uses a Digital Twin based analysis as part of their online software platform. The Digital Twin is used to provide ship charterers and shipowners with improved analysis tools.No need to go on-boardCharterers are not the owner of the vessels they operate. We4Sea’s software module has been developed with a focus on charterers, that do not have direct access to the vessel and do not have the option to install monitoring equipment.The reporting for Sea Cargo Charter is based on noon or voyage reports for each voyage under charter. Estimated data can also be used, but only as a fallback option if noon data can’t be sourced. In this case, the proprietary Digital Twin technology of We4Sea enables verifiable estimates, based on vessel speed, draught, weather condition and distance sailed.This technology does not require the installation of hardware on-board and is therefore ideal for charterers.Optimizing vessel efficiency Charterers can use a platform to continuously monitor the fuel consumption and carbon emissions of their chartered vessels in real-time via an on-line dashboard.
